KOBAYASHI RYU

Shorin-Ryu karate is the empty handed fighting style developed by early masters such as Kusanku, Tode Sakugawa and Sokon Matsumura. Matsumura was not only the the personal bodyguard of the King of Okinawa but was also the head of the Okinawn Royal Defense. Kobayashi-Ryu is the main branch of all styles of Shorin-Ryu. It was created by Chosin Chibana out of his desire to teach the style of his teacher Anko Itosu without modification. To distingish his style from other Shorin styles, Chibana Sensei called his style Kobayashi-Ryu (young forest style). Our lineage can be traced directly back to the very roots of Okinawan Karate (Shuri-te). Because of this direct lineage, the kata (forms) we teach today are virtually identical to what was taught in Okinawa hundreds of years ago.

By training in an orthodox environment and learning to utilize whole body motions of Kobayashi-Ryu, our students develop tremendous power and speed which enables them to become very proficient in self defense. All of our instructors, including Master Carr, continue to train on a regular basis so we are able to provide consistent instruction at the highest level. We welcome all ages and levels, from novice to the very experienced.
